Mary Ann Schildknecht – Artist & Teacher:

Born in California, life long artist Mary Ann Schildknecht continues to follow her passions for painting and teaching art.  After studying art at San DiegoState, Mary Ann pursued careers as a designer in the fields of fashion, advertising and publishing.

In the 1970's she turned to watercolors and devoted herself to perfecting her techniques in her San Francisco North Beach studio.  In 1990 Mary Ann moved to the quaint waterfront town of Martinez, CA and included painting with oils and acrylics as well as her first love-watercolors. After visiting and painting scenes of the Napa Valley though out the years, the artist moved to Calistoga in the summer of 2010.

As a prolific artist, Mary Ann is happy either painting still life in her studio or enjoying the beautiful Ca landscapes painting en plein air. Ms. Schildknecht combined her painting passion with her love of teaching early in her career and continues to enjoy teaching both children and adults.  She is currently teaching adult beginning watercolors at the Calistoga Art Center and privately in her studio.

Mary Ann’s work has been exhibited in shows throughout CA and Hawaii and can be found in many private collections.

Deirdre Shibano Bio:

Ms. Shibano was originally trained at The Art Students League of NYC, where she received the Merit Scholarship and acted as a monitor/assistant for the painting classes. She studied with Andrew Lukach and Vaclav Vytlacil, among others. Her focus was on the figure and still life... until moving to California, where she was overwhelmed by the beauty and grandeur of the landscape. After many years, she continues to explore the challenges of capturing the amazing beauty which
surrounds us today. Ms. Shibano is an exhibiting artist, and holds a degree in Fine Art from New College of CA, as well as a California Teaching Credential in the Fine
Arts. She truly enjoys teaching students regardless of their level or experience. Her goal is to inspire emerging artists... to realize their passion and interest in painting... and venture out in the tradition of the French Impressionists...

Jocelyn Audette
My approach to painting and drawing stems from a deep reverence for nature and the environment combined with a love of adventure, exploring the unknown, and immersing myself in the creative process.  Since 1993, my landscape painting has focused mainly on the California wine country and coast but includes France, Greece, Hawaii, the mountains of Colorado, the rocky canyons of the Southwest.  I’ve revisited the art of still life and done many studies of fruit, flowers, sculpture, and other objects.  I’ve done many paintings of my dogs and other animals.  Finally, I’ve continued my figurative drawings and paintings working from a live model.
The goal of my work is to capture the beauty, power, and mystery of the subject, whether it is a particular landscape, a tiny flower, an animal, or the human figure.  I love creating dramatic compositions, and working with intense color and interesting textures.  Regardless of what I paint, an intimate connection with the subject develops and is forever imprinted upon my memory.

My mediums include encaustic painting, oil painting, monotypes, and watercolor.  I am currently working on a series of plein air and encaustic paintings of Northern California.

Background
:  I am a professional artist who has lived in Calistoga, California since 1993 and the San Francisco Bay area for the past 30 years.  Prior to that, I lived around the country including Colorado, Massachusetts, Michigan, Washington, and Alaska.  Living in such diverse and beautiful places has had a big impact on my work.  I received my Bachelor of Fine Arts at the University of Colorado in 1977 where my focus was abstract painting.  I received a full scholarship in my senior year based on my paintings.
My work can be seen on my web site at www.jocelynaudette.com and at:
  • Boho Gallery, Freestone, California
  • Quicksilver Mine Company in Forestville, California
  • Elder Art Gallery in Charlotte, North Carolina
  • Skol Studio Gallery in Ouray, Colorado
  • Casa Design in Calistoga, California
  • My Studio!
I often have paintings in exhibits across the country.  I was the founder and producer of the Art for America Benefit at Clos Pegase Winery in which nearly 100 Bay area artists donated paintings to help the victims of 9/11 in New York.

Vicki Serrao Biography

I am a California native and part time resident of the Big Island of Hawaii where my husband and I own a condo at the Shores in the Waikoloa Resort area.  I previously owned and operated Bird in Hand Pottery until 1991, when; at that time, due to injuries, the direction of my artwork changed to include painting and art jewelry using “precious metal clay”.  In the past 12 years I have rediscovered my love of working with clay and now combine it with precious and semi precious stones to create one of a kind pieces of wearable art.

I have participated in many art shows in the Northern California area and have received second and third place awards for two of my precious metal clay necklaces.  I have taught workshops at the Calistoga Art Center and private classes in my home studio.

My love of the ocean often finds its way into the pieces I create.  Being an avid scuba diver, surfer and beach bum, I find myself using colors inspired by the sea, sand and rich greens of the rain forest.  As with any of my artistic activities I find it important to have fun with what I am doing and not take myself too seriously.  I create for myself, if someone else finds happiness from wearing one of my pieces, all the better!

During the summer my deck doubles as my studio and I often have friends join me for Wednesday Paradise Pool and Paint.  My precious metal clay friends and I often get together for sleep over and marathon jewelry making weekends.  I am very lucky to be married to a wonderful man, Bob, who supports me in all of my artistic endeavors.
