The following photographs are taken from a Calistoga Art Center's collaboration with the Calistoga High School English Language Development class. It is an art intervention program, meeting two hours a week. An artist, Sharie Renault and Teacher Anna Orozco adapted the course curriculum to embrace art projects . The art helps motivate limited English speakers to express visually their responses and feeling about the book they have read, "The House on Mango Street" by Sandra Cisneros. The book is about a you g girl, Esperanza, and her family who live in poverty and dream of owning a house one day." No, this isn't my house I say and shake my head as if shaking could undo the year I've lived here. In English my name means hope. In Spanish it means too many letters. It means sadness, it means waiting."
Over the past two months the students have created art work depicting their idea of their dream house. "A home is where love is." Miguel
