Lin Weber’s career as an artist began five years ago with a photo she took of some reeds in a pond that looked, she thought, like an abstract painting. She bought a small canvas and some acrylic paints and produced her first piece of fine art. Suspecting that she had discovered an untapped talent, she set off with her camera and found a wealth of subjects that interested her, each posing its own challenges. She hired another artist to critique her work, and when they agreed that she had grasped the fundamentals of composition, Lin was on herway. Her favorite medium these days is water-mixable oils. She is especially fond of landscapes and still lifes of fruits and vegetables, but also enjoys painting dogs, cars, and people at work. A sampling of her work can be seen on her website,
Lin is also a published author and historian. Her books include Old Napa Valley, The History to 1900; Roots of the Present: Napa Valley 1900-1950; Under the Vine and the Fig Tree: The Jews of the Napa Valley; Queen of the Valley 50 Years: The History of the Queen of the Valley Hospital; Images of America: Napa; Images of America: Wine Country; and a novel, The Wine Cellar.
