I am mainly an oil painter, but sometimes use pastels and watercolors. My interests lie mostly in plein air landscape painting, intensifying color and value and striving for a good design and composition. I love the northern California landscape with its intricacies and drama, plus the huge variety of subject matter. I feel fortunate to live in area that encompasses all manner of scenes such as lavender fields, vineyards, country farms, and city life.
My other subject matter includes living things: people, animals, fish, and anything else with character. My current pieces feature people in their everyday pursuits. Farmers’ markets are especially good subjects.Occasionally, I do a commissioned piece of someone’s pet or a portrait of a person or family. These commissions are a challenge, but I love successfully capturing a likeness and a personality.
